A team of 23 Sheffield skaters will be hoping for medal success when they compete in the British Adult Championships 2012.

The three-day National Ice Skating Association (NISA) event is being staged at the squad’s home rink, iceSheffield, from February 16 - 18 2012.

Almost 200 skaters from across the UK, aged between 21 and 76 years old, will take part in Men’s, Ladies, Pairs and Ice Dance categories at the state-of-the-art facility.

Amongst the skaters representing iceSheffield will be 51-year-old Wendy Ollivant, who won a bronze medal at the 2011 British Adult Championships.

Wendy, who will be competing in singles pre-bronze class 2, is a former competitor of the Real Yorkshire Ice Factor – iceSheffield’s version of Dancing on Ice for novice skaters.

Mandy Parker, general manager of iceSheffield, which is operated by Sheffield International Venues (SIV), said: “At a time when ice skating fever is sweeping Sheffield we are delighted to be hosting this important championship, which gives skaters of all ages and abilities the chance to gain competition experience.

“Having such a strong representation at the event highlights the quantity and quality of people progressing through our successful Learn to Skate programme, which is already hugely popular, but even more so following the recent European Championships 2012 in Sheffield and Dancing on Ice. We wish all our skaters the best of luck for the competition.”

At last year’s championship, also staged at iceSheffield, the city skated away with a total of 10 medals.

Keith Horton, chief executive of NISA, the national governing body responsible for the development of the sport throughout Great Britain and Northern Ireland, said: “The Championships is an important date within the British skating calendar and we are pleased to be able to offer competitors an opportunity to perform in one of the very best ice skating venues in the UK.”
